Mystic Man
2000 · Photograph by Tim Lynch · Big Prayer Museum Archive
Mystic Man comes from an earlier stage of image-making, before Photoshop became
part of this creative process. Rather than building the concept digitally afterward, the
visual story was developed through photography, physical imagery, backdrops, positioning,
and composition in front of the camera. The sequence moves between the future, the past,
and a search for guidance, giving viewers historical context for how the work was originally created.
Future
The first shot looks toward an X-ray of the hand, representing the future.
Past
The skull functions as the visual reference to the past.
Guidance
The final shot looks upward for guidance, with mountains and sky from two Mark Hunt backdrops.
